4th of July Peanut Butter Pie Recipe
Let me ask you... what's more American than the combination of the Fourth of July, peanut butter, and pie? Why, nothing, that's what!
The recipe isn't only completely and quintessentially American, it's also one of the easiest 4th of July dessert ideas you'll come across. It requires no baking and no cooking... just mix, pour, chill, and go. You don't have to color your pie red, white, and blue if you don't want to... but with the colored filling and fruit topping, it makes for a really fun and easy patriotic dessert.
Recipe serves about 12 (2 pies).
Ingredients:
3/4 C. creamy peanut butter
12 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 C. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 C. milk
12 oz. whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
1 can cherry or strawberry pie filling
2 9" graham cracker crusts, prepared
Blue food coloring, as needed
Instructions: 1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese on medium high with an electric mixer until fluffy.
2. Blend in the peanut butter and powdered sugar until fluffy and well mixed.
3. Slowly beat in the milk in several additions. Beat in vanilla.
4. Fold in the Cool Whip.
5. Separate this filling into two equal sized batches. Leave half white, and color the other half blue with food coloring.
6. Divide the blue filling equally among your two graham cracker crusts. Pour white filling equally over the blue.
7. Freeze until set.
8. Pour pie filling over and serve.
Note: Looking for a lighter 4th of July dessert idea? You can really light up this pie by using fat free Cool Whip, fat free milk, and reduced fat cream cheese.
Easy Patriotic Cheesecake Strawberries
Now, if you're looking for a free Fourth of July dessert recipe that's worth its weight in gold, this is the one. These little strawberries are pretty, elegant, delicious, can be made ahead, and come together in about 20 minutes from beginning to end. They can be used as a 4th of July dessert idea, or as a fresh after-dinner snack.
Recipe makes 24 strawberries... which in my house is enough to feed, well, me. Be sure to make plenty!
Ingredients:
24 large, ripe strawberries
12 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 C. powdered sugar
24 blueberries
Instructions. 1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer until fluffy and well mixed. Set aside.
2. With the tip of a sharp knife, hollow out the center of the strawberry from the hull, going as deeply as you can without piecing the bottom. Or make your life easier by cutting your strawberries in half and hollowing them out slightly-- either way works, though this way isn't as pretty.
3. Using a pastry bag or a baggie with the corner cut off, pipe the cheese mixture into the strawberries.
4. Place a blueberry in the center of the cheese mixture in each strawberry. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Note: I like to serve these on a bed of graham cracker crumbs to give them a more cheesecake-y vibe.
World's Easiest Blueberry Crumble... in the Crockpot!
This is a four ingredient recipe that comes together in about 6 microseconds and tastes really wonderful. It's very sweet and not very healthy... but it's easy, can be made ahead of time, and tastes divine.
This is one of my favorite 4th of July dessert ideas when I'm short on time but want something impressive. I've made this up the morning before, let it sit in the crockpot, and turned it on 2-3 hours before serving with great success. Serve with vanilla ice cream and a few fresh raspberries for a red, white, and blue patriotic dessert.
Ingredients:
1 can (21 oz.) blueberry pie filling
1 package plain yellow cake mix (not prepared-- just the dry mix!)
1/2 C. butter, chilled
1/2 C. chopped pecans
Instructions: 1. With a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter into the DRY cake mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Pour your blueberry pie filling into the bottom of your slow cooker.
3. Sprinkle cake-butter mixture over.
4. Sprinkle with pecans.
5. Cook on low heat 2-3 hours. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream and raspberries. One of the easiest 4th of July dessert ideas ever!
