Party Recipes for Buffet Food:
Great Buffet Recipes

Entertaining friends and family is easier when you have a few great party recipes for buffet food. Why? Because setting up a buffet meal is always going to be easier than a sit-down dinner. That is, if you have all the right ingredients.

Buffet Recipes and Food for a partyThere are so many options for making your own buffet, that it can really be a lot of fun to plan. And it's even more fun to eat: you can have a little of all the food you want, and get in plenty of socialization at the same time. The key is planning, budgeting and good preparation.

Read on for some tips on party recipes, buffet food set-up help, and more. But you'll find tons more at Buffet Recipes and Set-Up Central, including:

Buffet Recipe and Set-Up 101

The rules of a setting up a buffet at home are simple: Guests must be able to sit or stand easily with their food, and any buffet foods you serve MUST be eaten using only a fork or spoon. Unless you have actual tablespace for every single guest, knives are a no-no.

Additionally, choosing party recipes and buffet food that you can make ahead (while not carved in stone) certainly helps make for greater success.

Party Recipes: Buffet Food Menu Design

Outdoor Buffet with Middle Eastern Themed FoodThe design of your buffet depends heavily on the type of buffet you have in mind. A soup and salad buffet requires vastly different equipment than a sandwich buffet, for example. However, coming up with a theme around which to choose your recipes will make the whole task infinitely easier. There are simply too many foods that could possibly become part of your offerings otherwise.

What kind of buffet dinner theme could you choose? Well... really anything! You might have a:

  • Pot luck buffet
  • Southern cooking buffet
  • Fabulous fifties buffet
  • Tropical buffet
  • Beat the heat buffet (cold items)
  • Sizzle and Swizzle (think hot and spicy with a frozen drink area)
  • Comfort Food buffet

No matter what you chose for your party, please take extra care with food safety in planning and setting up your party recipes and buffet food. Don't leave any food out longer than two hours unless it's something like chips, bread, or hard cheeses.

Make-Your-Own Sandwich Buffet Idea

To help put party recipes and buffet food into a framework example, we'll look at the classic sandwich buffet. These days it's often very easy to find great breads, even artisan blends in the marketplace (or you could make your own from scratch). The variety of bread and bread-like wraps is really phenomenal so think creatively. When creating a sandwich bar or buffet, look for:

  • Ciabatta
  • Focaccia
  • Croissants
  • Pitas
  • Flavored tortillas
  • Boule
  • Raisin bread

All of these will make for the foundation for some really interesting sandwiches! And don't be shy to choose flavors!

Now you can set up a sandwich buffet in one of two ways. First would be to put out all the meat, cheese and toppings separately and just let guests "make their own". In this case make sure you have the bread pre-sliced and offer a creative variety of condiments.

The second approach to a sandwich buffet is making a variety of offerings ahead of time and labeling them for your guests.
