The BEST Texas Barbeque Sauce Recipe
This sauce is spicy, rich, sweet, garlicky, and, well... really good. It's not as thick as many Texas sauces, but is bursting with flavor. What this sauce isn't,
however, is tangy. If you like an extra tang in your barbeque, you might want to toss in 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar in addition to the regular apple cider. It's
great either way!
Ingredients:
1 quart vegetable juice (like V8)
1 quart beef broth
1/2 C. plain yellow mustard
1/2 C. apple cider
1 C. molasses
1/3 C. black pepper
1/3 C. paprika
1/4 C. Worcestershire sauce
1 lg. yellow onion, chopped fine
1 C. roasted green chilis
1-2 jalepeņo peppers, minced (to taste)
1/2 C. minced garlic
1 tbsp. liquid smoke
Tabasco or other hot sauce (to taste, optional)
Instructions: Combine V8 and beef broth in a large pan. Add mustard, apple cider, molasses, peper and paprika. Stir as you add each ingredient.
Simmer approximate 30 minutes on medium-low heat. Then add worcestershire, onion, jalepeño, chili, and garlic.
Let simmer over low heat about three hours. Taste for spice after two hours or so, add hot sauce if desired.
Cool and blend, if desired (is equally good chunky or smooth). The sauce tastes great immediately, but is best when left for several days in the refrigerator
before using.
