Recipe: Create Your Own Gourmet Burgers on the Grill
If you going to make your dinner party menu on the grill, let's start with an all time backyard grilling food classic: burgers! There are so many ways that you can dress up a burger that you could make any of a hundred varieties. If you add the right ingredients and toppings, it's easy to take your casual backyard burger inside for a nice summer dinner party. Cheeseburgers can be fancy if you want... but they're never snooty.
As far as backyard grilling food goes, burgers are the easiest to adapt to any taste. The basic burger recipe below is simple and adaptable. But you can really make it your own by adding a ton of different mix-ins and toppings.

Some fun combination and ideas for building your own gourmet burgers for a dinner party menu on the grill are:
- Lamb Burgers with Cumin, Coriander, Mint, and Tzatziki

Have fun with it! Use the flavors YOU like, experiment with them ahead of time, and you'll end up with something fancy and fun... but not a bit uptight. Which is exactly what you want for a summer dinner party!
Basic recipe (below) makes 4 burgers.
Ingredients:
1 pound 80% lean ground beef (or lamb, turkey, or pork)
1/4 C. stone ground mustard (or combination of mix-ins of your choice)
2 tbsp. minced white onion
3/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
4 Kaiser rolls
Instructions: 1. Simply blend all the ingredients (except the rolls) together, including up to three mix-ins.
2. Split it out evenly to make 4 patties.
3. Grill over a medium heat until burgers reach 160 degrees F (or cook until well done for turkey bugers). Serve with lettuce, tomato and onion.
