Homemade Sweet Potato Chips Recipe
These easy Fourth of July snacks get prepared using sweet potatoes or yams. Note that one good-sized tuber makes enough chips for 2-3 people easily.
These are wonderful made with plain salt... but you can also play around with them! Use a mix of salt and pepper, salt, sugar, and cinnamon, or for a fiery chip coat with chipotle powder and honey powder. Or make a bunch of different ones, just for fun.
Serves about 8.
Ingredients:
3 large sweet potatoes
Oil for frying
Salt or other chosen seasoning
Instructions: 1. Slice your yams or sweet potatoes very thinly, putting the slices in water while you're cutting the rest of the potato. Dry them thoroughly before cooking.
2. Next, deep-fry the chips at 375 degrees in vegetable oil (you can use a large pot with vegetable oil for this) about 3 minutes, til golden brown.
3. Scoop out onto paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with salt or the seasoning mix of your choice.
