Re-Using Oil for Frying Turkeys

by Joann

Great site! We just fried our first turkey - did a dress rehearsal before Thanksgiving - it came out great thanks to all your great tips. I do have a question.

Don't want to seem cheap but is it possible to reuse the peanut oil? Spent $30 for the oil and $12 for the turkey.

Reusing Fried Turkey Peanut Oil
by: Karen from DDP

Glad you had success with your fried turkey! They really are wonderful, aren't they.

The bad thing about frying turkey is how expensive the oil can get! The good news is that you CAN re-use it... and plenty of times. When it gets too dark, you'll probably want to throw it out. But you can use it at least 4-5 times before you'll need to do that. But be careful only to cook turkey in it. Peanut oil absorbs the flavor of anything you cook in it, so can get pretty strong if you use it for the wrong thing. But it can actually be a great thing for turkey! I think the third or fourth turkey cooked in the same batch of oil actually has MORE flavor.

Let me know if you have any more questions, and good luck to you!
